Vienna Youth (VYI) Volleyball was formed in 2009 to meet the growing demand for youth volleyball in Northern Virginia. The program is open to both girls and boys ranging from 4th grade through High School. VYI offers play at all skill levels, from beginner to advanced/club level. In addition, VYI offers skills clinics throughout the year, including advanced outdoor sand/grass. See below for a guide to the various leagues, clinics, and skill level definitions.
Beginner to Intermediate - C and B level players
4th - 8th grade
Spring and Fall season
One practice and one game per week against other VYI House teams
End of season VYI House tournament.
Intermediate - B level players
Invitation only by House League Coaches during Spring season
One practice per week
1-2 league and local NOVA tournaments
Intermediate to Advanced - B and BB Level players
Middle School - 7 & 8th grade
Girls only 6s
Fall and Spring Season
1-2 practices and 1 match per week against other local teams
C – Little to no understanding of the game. No developed volleyball skills.
B – Very basic understanding of the game and rules. Some developed volleyball skills, such as passing and serving.
BB – Solid knowledge of the game and rules. Skill levels range from Advanced Beginner to Advanced Intermediate. All players understand rotational sequence, offensive concepts (i.e., 5-1, 6-2, etc.) and defensive positions but may be working to solidify those skills.
A – Excellent knowledge of the game and rules. Skill levels range from Advanced Intermediate to Experienced. All players understand rotational sequence, offensive concepts (i.e., 5-1, 6-2, etc.) and defensive positions and can apply them in competition. Game and player strategies are well understood (i.e., running offensive plays, identifying opponent weaknesses, reading opponents plays during volley, etc.) but may still be in refinement.
