AGE GROUP COORDINATOR

STEP BY STEP GUIDE

The Age Group Coordinators within the volleyball program are very important in the efficient operation of the league. They work hand in hand with the League Commissioner to set up tryouts, recruit coaches, assign players to teams on an equal basis, handout equipment, and schedule practices and games for their age level.

Upon selection each AGC must complete a Commissioner Application at www.vyi.org including a background check. AGCs are also expected to complete a Building Director test immediately after selection.

February

Monitor registrations for age group at www.vyi.org or admin.vyi.org to determine projected players in league. Send out "blast" email using VYI database if numbers are lower then expected.

Actively recruit coaches.

NOTE: As coaches are obtained make sure they immediately complete a VYI Coach Applicaiton and a background check as well as taking the Building Director test.

Review equipment with the League Commissioner at the VYI Equipment Building to be certain enough gear exists to properly serve the league.

Provide League Commissioner a spreadsheet with sizes of numbers of uniforms to purchase for your league.

March

Monitor registrations and actively recruit coaches for your league from volunteers. Conduct a coach meeting to cover tryouts, uniform and ball handout, and projected practice time and game times.

NOTE: As coaches are obtained make sure they immediately complete a VYI Coach Applicaiton and a background check as well as taking the Building Director test.

Near the end of the registration period formally agree with the League Commissioner to the number of teams in your league.

Once the gym allocation is received by the League Commissioner from Fairfax County, obtain your tryout gym times as well as gym times for practices and games and enter them into the "Master Calendar" at the League Atheltics website at www.vyi.org.

Conduct a player tryout with all your coaches present and all registrants participating. Grade each participant so that coaches have sufficient information to draft teams of equal abilities.

Conduct a draft of players at a coach meeting. Hand out uniforms, balls and other gear as needed.

Assign all active players to teams at the League Athletics website.
